Through the Eyes of an Insurance Agent
Dear Congressman Richard Hudson,
Thanks for sending this out and I hope you will send more as I have forwarded this to some of my clients, colleagues and friends.
I have been in the insurance industry for almost 30 years, doing benefit planning for small to medium size businesses in North Carolina, South Carolina and surrounding states.
Perhaps I was naive, but I never thought I would see my career end and my health care being taken over by bureaucrats who have not an apparent clue what they are doing other than taking control of my life.
However, I am smart enough to see that this entire fiasco IS NOT about health-care, but rather about control of the American people, and control of 20% of the national economy. However, by gaining control of health care – government NOW really has control of ALL-OF-US!
With the IPAB and 16,000 new IRS agents, government now controls who lives, dies or gets lifesaving treatment.
I never ever thought I would see something so socialistic passed in this country, but as I said, this is NOT about health care, this is about control of we-the-people and vote buying. IF this entire shenanigan had been about getting health-care-for-the-uninsured-and-uninsurable, then government could have set a program up, similar to Medicare for JUST those folks, with a sliding scale for premiums based on income. This would not have been hard and I can imagine would have had overwhelming support of most the house and senate.
However, the American people have been sold a bill-of-garbage that was passed in the middle of the night with bribes and under-handed Chicago-style-politics. However, with ‘who’ the American people have elected to various state offices to ‘represent them’ this comes as no real surprise.
If anything close to resembling this thuggery had been attempted by a sitting Republican president, impeachment proceedings would have begun immediately and would have been completed by now.
I would like to ask you sir:
Where were the republicans on impeachment for these thug-like tactics to pass a law that there was so much outrage about? Do you remember the town-hall meetings AGAINST this government-take-over of our health-care?
Where are republicans now on a president granting waivers to a select-few? which are against-enforcing ‘the law’ Obama was so adamant about passing?
I hear nothing about how Obama is doing as he wants whether he breaks the law or is in compliance with the law. Nothing from Republicans- about any-of-this as they are ALL as quiet as church mouse.
It appears to me the republicans just want to be polite, go-along-to-get-along southern gentlemen with charm and other than a few, not cause any ruckus.
That sir, IS disgusting behavior, especially, when it IS our freedoms that are at stake here! The republican house holds the key, but yet are fractured and seemingly just can’t-get-it-together. Too many people have left the farm and are out roaming, wanting their-own-thing.
It appears the democrats, lead by Harry Reid will be as down-n-dirty as needed to get their socialistic, vote-buying agenda done BUT the big thing IS: they are UNITED IN DOING IT!
The republican party IS so fractured, so disjointed and so dysfunctional that most likely a 3rd candidate will arise in 2016 and this in-and-of-it-self will cause the election in 2016 to go by default to the democrats.
I don’t believe the republicans could unite at this juncture on what color to paint an outdoor toilet in the back hills of North Carolina!
Disgusting! Absolutely disgusting! All the while we watch the democrats steam-roll their agenda thru…
IF the republicans had united on repealing Obamacare and NOT caving as they did, there could have been some movement in the senate, but republicans were too afraid of losing-their-seat vs following the constitution (remember that document?).
When the ACA was passed in 2010(what a mis-nomer name), my commissions were immediately cut by 50% from all carriers. I have been doing the same amount of work for the last 3 years for 50% less in money. The insurance carriers knew what was coming and this was in 2010!
Now, while most of my seasoned colleagues have left the business due to very little money being able to be made in this (once great) business, while new requirements, huge responsibilities and tremendous liability from clients and consumers, most of the experienced, tenured people like myself who have not already exited the industry will leave in 2014.
I spoke with a Complaint Analyst the the North Carolina Department of Insurance and he predicts that within two years at most, insurers will not be paying any commission to brokers. This will put how many hundreds of thousands of additional people without jobs and since most of us are sole-proprietor’s, we will not be eligible for government assistance of UN-employment!
I’m sure this will go UN-noticed by most, and not reported by state-controlled media. IF our commissions had just been re-looked at by congress and taken out of MLR, at least we would be able to make a living and assist now in this time of crisis. But no one apparently cared enough to make this a central issue. Sad. Very sad indeed.
The USA was designed to be a constitutional republic, however, it is falling apart from within, and it seems other than a select few, Republicans could care less as they are too worried about ‘their seats.’
While I am no constitutional scholar, and have had a career only in the business world, what I see is IF the Republicans don’t unite and go back to their core-conservative principles, AS A UNIT, then in 2014 they will lose by a landslide; Democrats will control the house, Democrats will continue to control the Senate as well as the residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Then it will be: Katie-bar-the-door for America! Socialism doesn’t work!
The first item after the Democrats are totally at the helm, will be amnesty to illegals and there will be a block of 30 Million NEW Democratic voters. The dems may dress this up with no-voting-rights for a small period, but somehow/someway this will get changed and by 2020, there will be a huge NEW democratic voting block. This little piece of legislation will be the dems ‘insurance-policy’ to make certain Democrats win for at least the next 50 years.
Second item passed after 11/2014 elections, will be single payor health care (of-which Obamacare is a slow-train(wreck) towards) they will just put the ACA on steroids and go straight to single-payor.
Finally, they will ram thru Cap n Tax. And ‘your electric bills will necessarily skyrocket’…
Agenda: Complete. All by 2016.
All of this by 2016 because the Republicans left their core conservative values just to remain in office- just to get their perceived need for votes.
This, sir, with all due respect, is disgusting and that will be after the house with its infinite wisdom under the direction of a very weak John Boehner decides to now make people who have saved and created a little wealth pay more for Medicare which IS mandatory.
This in and of-itself is another story, as I desire NOTHING to do with Medicare and would not wish this train-wreck on my worse enemy. However, Congress in their infinite wisdom believe age 65 citizens should not have a choice in their healthcare. Government-knows-whats-best. I think not! I for one want a choice and I would like to keep my-own healthcare, but I’m not allowed!
Lets see, government make us take this required Medicare at age 65; then if we have been a bit frugral living and saved a little more than the ‘average Joe’ we have to pay-more-to-get something we-don’t-want but we are made to take? WE have to pay more to get something we paid in the maximum all of our working years? Sounds like good dose-of-the-ole castor oil..
Really?
Richard-whats wrong with this picture?
I could go on and on, but hopefully you are beginning to see the level of frustration I have, as well as many of my friends and colleagues of which you serve.
While I realize you are not a one-man army, I hope you will discuss this with many of your house colleagues as one-thing-for-certain, IF the Republican party continues doing-what-they’re doing now, without uniting, in just a little more than a year, most all of you will be history.
Sincerely,
Sherry W. Crawford, M.S

Wonder what flavor Kool-aid she’s drinking. Sounds like the unsweetened kind.
The insurance agent is dead-on right. Obamacare is a disaster, but Republican RINOs will not stand and fight on anything. We do need a new conservative party. The sooner the Republican carcass is buried, the better.
Spot on. I wonder if anyone in Washington is even capable of reading it though. Apparently Washington is where the dimmest part of our population resides.
“All of this by 2016 because the Republicans left their core conservative values just to remain in office- just to get their perceived need for votes.”
That just about says it all…
