Tweet-le Dumb or Media Rabbit Chasing
The Panthers victory over the New York Jets and the Saints loss to the Rams wasn’t the only news being tweeted out across the Twitter-verse yesterday.
Appearing on the front page of the Charlotte Observer online today is the story of Senator Bob Rucho’s tweet yesterday morning that has ignited a Twitter war.
Depending on your perspective, it’s either an insulting and ignorant perspective on 75 years worth of history, or an insightful commentary on the excessive damage that our government is foisting on the American people.
The tweet reads as follows:
“Justice Robert’s pen & Obamacare has done more damage to the USA then the swords of the Nazis,Soviets & terrorists combined.”
That is certainly a bold statement, and at this point probably factually challengeable. Our nation lost millions of our citizens to the actions of the mentioned enemies. So far, this isn’t the case with Obamacare.
On the other hand, while we were able to defeat the scourge of the Nazis and the Soviet Empire, (I leave out terrorists on purpose…how does one defeat a tactic?), the ACA has been imposed on the American people by our own government and the research to date shows that the economic and medical suffering that will take place in the coming years (minus total reversal) will be hard hitting and long lasting.
So PunditHouse residents, was Rucho’s tweet a serious error in judgement warranting “Off with his head!” or is the media simply latching onto and sensationalizing a tweet that reconfirms the beliefs shared by many?

Politicians shouldn’t be on Twitter. The “twitter-verse” is only full of stories of bad tweets that harm the image of the user. Think of it, when was the last time you heard a story about a politician and the great, insightful “tweet” they put out this weekend? Advice to politicians, ditch the twitter account, ditch the consultant who recommended you get a twitter account, ditch the “20-something” social media expert you’ve hired to communicate your inner most thoughts in 140 characters or less, and never, ever handle your own Twitter account, especially if you have had ANYTHING to drink.
It’s more comparable to Nixon’s wage price controls and Carter’s energy policy but no one remembers those.
In the long run, Rucho is probably correct. Perhaps we can’t compare deaths, but in damage to the economy and to the ability of people to improve their lives, then he is correct.
And, the left wing media is on a trail to get rid of Rucho. So as Scott E. says – he needs to be careful.
Word is Andy Dulin, that paragon of right wing virtue, is being encouraged to run against him.
That one is tops in the ‘stupidest thing Lewis has typed’ category.
Zon reverts to form: denigrating those with whom he disagrees. Typical leftist – wishing to stifle dissent from the party line. The leftist party line here is anti Rucho.
But I support Rucho, and the fact he said something which and your ilk twist to mean something it doesn’t, reflects on you, not him.
Well we know he meant the unbridaled spending and price controls caused by a centrally planned medical system will lead to an economic collapse of the US something the British Empire, Imperial and Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union (though we did it to them in the 80’s), and al-Queda have been unable to do. After all we’re going to have to cut military spending to the bone even in the face of chinese expansion in asia to pay for all this spending.
Three grammatical errors in a single sentence. How did this guy get into dental school?
Yes, the improper use of the apostrophe should have be appreciated by more people who use it every day.
That said, the intent of the tweet was spot on. Coming from another “victim” of the Observer’s witch hunt against social media comments and posts, KEEP IT UP, SENATOR! Don’t be afraid to tell the truth, even it it “offends” people.
Stalin’s 5 year plan started out this way.
Give to the government for the good of the country, become a “collective”, redistribute resources.
We all know how that turned out.
In our case, it’s rebottled as “fair share”, “a better plan” (Obamacare), gun control…etc…
I’m inclined to go with the “off with his head” choice. But hardly surprising coming from a Yankee carpetbagger. Besides, I’m sure Bob has some very good reasons for hating the ACA, namely the cuts in Medicare reimbursement rates lowering the amount of welfare his dental practice is taking in.
Hardly equivalent to the deaths of 60 million+ and the suffering of countless others, though.
Obozo is my Shepherd; I shall not work.
He maketh me to lie down and watch Oprah:
He leadeth me beside the still factories.
He restoreth my bling bling:
He leadeth me in the paths of idleness for Husseins name sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the sharing of the wealth,
I will fear no workfare: For thou art funding me;
Thy gat and thy blade, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of people who actually produce;
Thou annointest my teeth with gold; Our crack pipes runneth over.
Surely rebates and Earned Income Credits shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Obozo forever…
Amen!
