Obamacare Testimony in Gastonia

Dec 2, 2013   //   by Christian Hine   //   Carolinas, Christian Hine, National  //  10 Comments

Howdy folks.

Apologies for the tardiness of getting this online, but I was basically in an illness coma most of last week.

As you know, the Gaston County Courthouse was packed November 22 as the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee listened to local testimonies regarding the impact the Affordable Care Act has made on North Carolinians.

Witnesses included Dan Waters, president of Dan Waters & Associates, a Hickory insurance agency, Joel Long, president of GSM Services, a commercial roofing and HVAC company in Gastonia, Tav Gauss, CEO of Action Group Human Resources Solutions, a staffing firm with multiple offices statewide, Sherry Overby, director of the Belmont Crisis Pregnancy Center and Jason Falls, owner of Falls Insurance in Kings Mountain.

This is video I took of the presentations, each of which lasted 5 minutes.  The second half of the video is the interactive question and answer with the witnesses and Congressmen Issa, McHenry, and Pittenger.

As an aside, while Democrats complained about the one-sidedness of this hearing, Rep Issa explained in the beginning that Democrat Representatives were allowed to attend and bring in witnesses of their own.  They chose not to.

  • Hey ,all you democrats please double down on Obama care. Please print more money to pay for it. Please take more from the rich to pay for it. Please give the bills to the greedy middle class. Please make sure deductibles go through the roof.
And please hurry up and do it.

    • At the event, it was embarrassing for the protesters. With their pre-made and professionally funded signage, they were thankful for the program and blamed Republicans for the poor rollout. One lady in particular said it was all ALEC’s fault…the American Legislative Exchange Council…a mostly GOP driven alliance of state legislators who offer sample/template legislation to members on various issues. I’m not the biggest fan of ALEC, as they support HOT lane implementation, but they are certainly not responsible for Obamacare’s failures.

      • No. It was a Koch Brothers conspiracy with Karl Rove, Roger Ailes, and Dick Cheney. They didn’t get the Soro’s Morning Update.

        • Yes, the Koch Brothers destroyed Obamacare. That’s a fact, Jack. 🙂

        • Skyler: The Wired – is the correct spelling.

          • That’s my Alt on Wired.com

  • So Congressman Issa is calling his propaganda show a hearing, now? You would think between the Beghazi witch hunt and his ACA ‘hearings’ he wouldn’t have time to get anything else done. Oh, wait, he doesn’t get anything else done.

    • Just another silly GOP dog and pony show. You people just can’t get it through your thick skulls that the ACA is infinitely better than what we have now.

And of course the Koch brothers didn’t destroy the ACA. Jeez. It hasn’t even been implemented yet!

Are you guys really this ignorant?

      • Wrong target, I think ACA is better than anything the wing nuts can come up with.

      • Have you actually read the ACA. The coverage you get is a throw back to old managed care plans in the 1990’s. Of course liberals do love the 90’s.
