Romney and Ryan Stump in North Carolina

The Romney and Ryan Families Take the Stage in Mooresville, NC

The day following the announcement of Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney’s running mate, the pair hit the road in North Carolina for stops in Mooresville and High Point.  These two stops and a Sunday evening rally in Ryan’s home state of Wisconsin are likely the only times they will join each other on the campaign trail, so a rare treat for the local GOP.

The Mooresville event, from which the following video was recorded, had a capacity crowd of 1,700 inside the NASCAR Technical Institute with thousands more listening outside the venue.

Among the standard Republican red meat talking points, Romney laid out a “5 point plan” that includes taking advantage of America’s energy resources, creating an effective education environment, “fair trade”, cutting the deficit, and supporting small businesses with lower taxes and decreased regulation.

Perhaps the largest applause line of the speech came at the 18:20 mark. Continuing to utilize President Obama’s “you didn’t build that” flub, Romney responded with, “Now I know, that to get to school, they (an honor roll student) had to go on a bus, and have a bus driver.  But if they get the honor roll, I don’t give the credit to the bus driver, I give it to the kid.”

  • Paul Ryan will help fiscally conservative Democrats vote for the Romney Ryan ticket instead of holding their noses and voting D as they did last time.

    • Most ‘Fiscally’ Conservatives I know are Racists. There’s no way they held their nose and voted D. They either voted McCain or did not Vote.

      • That should have read Fiscally Conservative DEMOCRATS.

        • Isn’t that an oxymoron?

          • They are a rare breed protected by the EPA

    • The “fiscally conservative” Paul Ryan who voted for TARP, voted for the GM & Chrysler bailouts, voted for Medicare D, voted for NDAA, voted for PATRIOT and every one of its extensions, and is currently trying to weasel out of sequestration cuts (which aren’t real cuts anyway but simply reductions in the rate of increase)?

      THAT “fiscally conservative” Paul Ryan?

      • Not to disagree with you. Paul Ryan has hardly advocated cutting as many of us would desire – only a decrease in the rates of increase which, as many of you realize, government and big government advocates, considers a cut. It is not a TParty position, but it is reality at this time.

        • If I spend $1 this year and more than $1 next, that is NOT A CUT. Lewis I thought you were smart enough to not adopt the twisted and false definitions provided by “government and big government advocates”. Guess I was wrong.
